Host: Steve J. Shockey

Steve was born in Lake Havasu, Arizona and spent most of his youth traveling around the Southwestern United States with his crazy parents. His family ended up in Nevada, where Steve received a B.A. in History from UNLV. His love of writing and history prompted his return to school where he received an M.A. in writing with a focus on Oral History from Dartmouth College. Steve previously worked in the video game industry as a multiplayer specialist, lead tester, and assistant producer. He spent the last few years writing television shows, comics, and feature films in Los Angeles, California before starting work on a video game history book and supplemental podcast that is now devouring all of his waking hours.

AJ hails from Las Vegas, Nevada. Born and raised in Nevada, he found that playing video games and writing music took him away from the unbearable blow dryer that is the desert. He has developed a taste for Thai cuisine, metal music, orchestral music, and chiptunes—which is basically music derived from the magical “bleeps” and “bloops” you hear from retro game consoles such as the SNES and Sega Genesis. Having been a touring musician, playing with the band SURVIVE THIS!, his main instrument of choice is the guitar. When he’s not making music, he’s making PB&Js to go with the many hours he puts into editing Beyond Beta podcasts.
